Former St. Martin baseball star signs with D1 school. ‘It’s something real special.’

Former St. Martin star pitcher and previous Sun Herald Athlete of the Year Leif Moore signed his national letter of intent to play at South Alabama as part of the 2022 signing class at Pear River Community College.

Moore is entering his third season at PRCC after missing last year due to an injury. His first year as a Wildcat featured much of the same dominance the right-handed pitcher showed at St. Martin.

He made three starts and allowed just one earned run across 13.1 innings of baseball. Moore is expected to return to the top of the PRCC rotation this upcoming season.

In high school, Moore had a head-turning senior campaign. He pitched 10 complete games in 11 appearances, including five shutouts.

Moore will be fulfilling his goal of playing top flight collegiate baseball.

“I’ve been working since day one to get to any Division I school,” Moore said. “But being that (USA) was at the top of my list coming out of high school and me being here three years, it’s something real special.”

Moore will join teammate and infielder John Griffin Bell at USA, a school Moore says is less than an hour away from home.

“I’m a real homebody, I like to be close to my parents,” Moore said. “South Alabama is only about 45 minutes away from the house.”

Pearl River begins a new season in February in hopes of following up a strong 36-win year.
