Top offensive, defensive high school football players chosen in latest SunHerald poll
The top players from both sides of the ball in South Mississippi have been decided on after over 50,000 votes were cast in the latest SunHerald poll.
Gulfport quarterback Jacob Palazzo earned the honor of top offensive player on the Coast after garnering 27% of the vote and edging out Ocean Springs quarterback Bray Hubbard. Palazzo has thrown for 1,743 yards and 15 touchdowns with just two interceptions.
Pass Christian’s Xavian Chamberlain won the defensive poll with 27% as well. The linebacker led his region in tackles with 90 and tackles for loss with 21.
Palazzo led all vote-getters with 13,297 total votes. The junior will lead the Admirals in the first round of the 6A playoffs against Oak Grove on Friday, Nov 12.
Chamberlain’s Pirates face Newton County on the road in the first round of the 4A playoffs Friday, Nov. 5.
