There’s a new No. 1 on the boys side of the Sun Herald Top 10.

This week’s top team, Harrison Central, beat previously undefeated Biloxi 60-55 Friday night in Lyman to move to 3-0 in Region 8-6A.

The Red Rebels fell to 63-46 to Meridian on Saturday, but there’s no shame in having that loss on the schedule. Meridian is one of the more talented teams in the state and stands at 21-1.

Harrison Central sits at 11-6 headed into Tuesday’s trip to Hancock. The Red Rebels have won seven of their last eight games as they regain their status at No. 1 after beginning the season there.

“We’re starting to take pride in defense and stopping people,” Harrison Central coach Boo Hardy said after his team’s win over Biloxi. “That’s what’s getting us these wins.”

Senior guard Dajon Whitworth had a hot night from the field against Biloxi, putting up 25 points.

There is a new member in this week’s boys poll with Pearl River Central (12-5) moving into the No. 10 spot. The Blue Devils have won six of their last seven games.

Gulfport, which has lost two of its last three games, drops out of the poll this week with a record of 9-9. The Admirals received two points in voting.

St. Martin (15-3) remain the No. 1 team in the Sun Herald girls poll. The Lady Yellow Jackets have won their last seven games and are 2-0 in Region 7-6A.

The Moss Point girls are the newest team in the poll, moving into ninth place. The Lady Tigers are 10-7 with four consecutive victories.

Sophomore guard Robyn Lee leads Moss Point with averages of 16.1 points, 6.7 rebounds and 3.4 assists. Lee received a scholarship offer from South Alabama in late December.

Moss Point, which is 3-0 in Region 8-4A, travels to No. 3 Pass Christian (15-6, 4-0) Tuesday for a crucial region contest.
