The Gulfport girls needed a lift in the second half Friday at Harrison Central and senior forward Whitney Johnson was there to provide it.

Johnson scored 10 of her 14 points to lead the Lady Admirals to a 47-38 upset of Harrison Central in Lyman to earn Sun Herald Player of the Week.

“Whitney is one of the best athletes we’ve ever seen,” Gulfport coach Brooke Glass said. “When she plays confident, nobody can stop her.”

Gulfport is 10-5 headed into Tuesday’s home game against Hancock.
