South Mississippi dominates All-State volleyball team

The Coast dominated the Mississippi Volleyball coaches All-state team.

Eleven local players were named to either the first or second team.

Class I champion Our Lady Academy, Class II champion Vancleave and Class III semifinalist Hancock all had three All-Star selections. Hancock won the Class III state title in 2016.

Middle blockers Emma Funk and Rebecca Walk and setter Hannah Gest were the OLA selections. Funk, the Sun Herald’s three-time player of the year, and Walk made the first team. Gest earned second-team honors.

Libero Sydney Salter, middle blocker Peyton McKerchie and setter Paige Davis were the Lady Bulldog selections. Salter made the first team, McKerchie and Davis were second-teamers.

Outside hitters Madison Ladner, Catie Ladner and middle blocker Karringten Perkins are the Lady Hawks picks. Madison made the first team. Catie and Perkins each landed a spot on the second team.

Ocean Springs outside hitter Amelia Moore and Gulfport outside hitter Dywana Parker also made the team. Moore, a Dayton signee, was on the first team. Parker made the second team.
