Wayne County put up 28 unanswered points in the second half to pull away for a 42-21 win at Gautier Friday night.

The War Eagles (6-5, 4-3) clinched a playoff bid with the win and will travel to Brookhaven (10-1) in the first round.

Gautier was in good shape at halftime with a 21-14 lead.

The first Gautier touchdown came from sophomore fullback Drake Thornton on a 7-yard run.

The next two scores came via the pass play as Dalyn McDonald connected with Micah Kelly on a 78-yard touchdown and Kameron Kincaid pulled in a McDonald toss for a 56-yard touchdown.

Thornton had to leave the game with an injury, hurting the Gators' cause in the second half.

Senior quarterback Zabryan Jackson had three rushing scores to lead Wayne County.

Gautier's season comes to a close with a record of 3-8.
