Hornets make a move in next to last AP prep poll
Fresh off yet another lopsided victory, the East Central Hornets (9-0) improved one spot in the Associated Press’ penultimate Mississippi Prep Poll of the 2017 season, climbing one spot to No. 9 in the overall ranking.
Poplarville (10-0) stayed at No. 7 in the state-wide poll.
The two Coast schools stayed at the top of the Class 4A rankings, too, with Poplarville garnering all 11 first-place votes.
Picayune is the only other Coast school to find itself in the AP’s rankings this week. The Maroon Tide (8-2) stayed at No. 5.
The overall Top 10 included some changes this week with No. 1 West Point (10-0), No. 2 Pearl (11-0), No. 3 Tupelo (10-0), No. 4 Hattiesburg (10-0), No. 5 Madison Central (8-2), No. 6 Starkville (9-2), No. 7 Poplarville, No. 8 Cleveland Central (11-0), No. 9 East Central and No. 10 Warren Central (7-3).
All Associated Press members in Mississippi are eligible to participate in the high school football poll. Those who voted for this week’s poll are: The Sun Herald, Commercial Dispatch, Bolivar Commercial, Hattiesburg Post, Enterprise-Journal, Natchez Democrat, Starkville Daily News, Northeast Mississippi Daily Journal, Vicksburg Post, WCBI, WTVA.
