Poplarville received a balanced scoring effort Friday night in a runaway 69-34 victory over Purvis.

The victory clinched the Region 7-4A title for the third time in four years.

“It’s really big,” Poplarville coach Jay Beech said. “That’s huge for our community. I’m just so proud of our kids who have seen the results of their hard work paying off.”

Austin Bolton led Poplarville (9-0, 4-0) with 186 yards and three touchdowns on 19 carries.

Tyson Holston also three touchdowns and 71 yards on 11 carries. Cory Knight added three more touchdowns and 108 yards on 17 carries. Zac Owen also scored one touchdown.

Even with the region locked up, don’t expect the Hornets to let up next week against Lawrence County. Beech said the team is determined to finish the regular season undefeated for just the third time in program history.

Beech said the team will have to play smart next week if it wants to keep its unblemished record while also remaining healthy for a potentially lengthy playoff push.
