Gulfport quarterback T.Q. Newsome has continued to show improvement in the Admirals’ new option offense.
Although the team’s passing attack still needs work if the Admirals are going to make a postseason push, Newsome turned a corner in Friday’s 33-14 win at rival Harrison Central when he rushed for 238 yards with touchdowns of 4, 1 and 31 yards. He also had a 91-yard sprint down the visitor’s sideline -- although the Admirals fumbled the ball away two carries later to deprive themselves of another touchdown.
“It’s going pretty well now,” Newsome said of adapting to the option attack. “I still have things to improve on and the team still has things to improve on. You can never get satisfied or content. Yes we’ve been having good outings but there’s still always room to get better.”
