Ocean Springs has enough balance to challenge for the Class III state volleyball championship.

Abby Murrell is a big reason why the Lady Greyhounds are contenders. The sophomore earned the Sun Herald volleyball player of the week honors with two strong performances.

In a 3-1 win over Oak Grove (17-25, 24-26, 25-17, 25-23, 15-9), Murrell had 22 assists, five kills and five digs.

Murrell had 19 assists and seven digs in a narrow 3-2 win over Vancleave on Oct. 5: (17-25, 24-26, 25-17, 25-23, 15-9). The Lady Bulldogs reached the Class II semifinals last year.

Ocean Springs plays host to Pearl in round one of the state volleyball playoffs on Oct. 19.
