Moss Point, Vancleave battled well into the 4th quarter

The Moss Point Tigers came up with a key win to stay in the postseason hunt Friday night.

The Tigers' put in a stellar defensive effort for a 14-0 victory at Vancleave, improving to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in Region 8-4A.

Vancleave (1-6, 0-2) tried to get on the board first when Roy Johnson tried a 39-yard field goal at the 9:11 mark of the second quarter, but the attempt was wide left to maintain the scoreless tie.

Moss Point got on the board less than 3 minutes later on a 29-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterback Ruben Lee to LaShun Coleman, giving the Tigers a 7-0 lead at the 6:19 mark of the second quarter.

Moss Point held the 7-0 advantage until Keiyonta Webb came up with a 10-yard interception return for a touchdown with 1:22 left in the game.

Moss Point will play host to Pass Christian next week while Vancleave will go to Bay High.
