With Resurrection and Southern Miss legend Fred Cook on hand give an inspirational pep talk, the Eagles rolled to a 48-0 win over Salem on homecoming Friday night.
RCS senior quarterback Blake Porter completed all four passing attempts for a total of 173 yards and three touchdowns. His touchdown tosses were to Caden Hinman, Patrick Roth and Jabryant Bradley. The longest was to Roth from 67 yards out.
“The offense was clicking,” RCS coach Scott Sisson said. “The running game got better. Once we got up, we stop throwing the ball because we realized we could throw it anytime we wanted. We were healthy this week so we worked on the running game. Our blocks were better and our runs were better.”
Jerry Johnson, Kolin Thompson, Terrance Spivey and Kelton Decuir all had rushing touchdowns for RCS.
After falling 45-39 at Stringer last week, the RCS defense proved up to the challenge on Friday.
“We changed up practice all week,” Sisson said. “Instead of going through the basics, we lined up and it was Oklahoma drills all week. We weren't being physical enough. Tonight, they answered the call. Hopefully it will continue.”
Resurrection (3-5, 2-1) travels to Mount Olive next week.
