The start of region play has led to some interesting results.

Region 4-6A specifically has already been turned on its head two weeks into division games.

After opening the season 0-4 and without its starting quarterback, the Biloxi Indians (2-4) seem to have found a groove with junior Kamron Suddeth leading the offense and late addition Donte Starks setting the tone on the defense. Friday, Bobby Hall’s squad picked up its second win in as many weeks with a 21-7 victory over then-No. 9 Harrison Central (2-4) and climbed into the latest Sun Herald rankings at No. 9.

Leading up to the season Hall talked up sophomore running back Kenyatta Harrell as one of the best at his position in the state. He broke out Friday against HCHS, rushing for 201 yards and two scores.

Joining BHS this week in the land of the ranked are D’Iberville (2-4) and Pass Christian (3-3), which are tied with St. Martin (3-3) at No. 10.

The Indians tripped up DHS last weekend, but the Warriors rebounded Friday with a 42-35 win over Ocean Springs. D’Iberville has struggled in recent weeks to get its offense clicking but that wasn’t the case against the Greyhounds (2-4) as Ja’Quavis Foster (201 yards), Devon Dixon (170) and Jordan Hartley (110) all eclipsed 100 yards rushing.

“Our coaches told us to forget about the Biloxi loss, come back and focus,” Foster told Sun Herald reporter James Jones after the game. “It’s just one loss. We still have plenty to play for.”

Continuing a trend of standout rushing performances from Friday, the Tionne Frost was a catalyst for the Pirates’ 34-28 win over Bay (0-6). The senior broke free for 282 yards and four touchdowns in the win.
