There was talk before the season even started that the state’s best receivers resided in South Mississippi and the Class 6A All-State team backs that idea up.

George County senior Tyrese Fryfogle, Ocean Springs senior Austin Williams and St. Martin senior Kalem Reddix all made first-team All-State this year.

Fryfogle caught 89 passes for 1,430 yards and 13 touchdowns this season. Reddix pulled in 91 passes for 1,774 yards and 20 touchdowns. Williams had 48 receptions for 697 yards and 13 scores.

There were two other players from the state’s southernmost counties on the first team: Harrison Central senior offensive lineman Jacob Shoemaker and George County senior quarterback LaRaymond Spivery, who made the team as an athlete.

Spivery completed 67 percent of his passes for 4,209 yards, 28 touchdowns and six interceptions. He ran 199 times for 1,200 yards and 15 touchdowns.

Three Coast players made the second-team offense: Biloxi senior receiver Tim Jones, Harrison Central junior running back and St. Martin senior quarterback Wayne Overman, who made the team as an athlete.

Biloxi senior cornerback Jiles Bradfield was the lone Coast representative on the first-team defense. He had 69 tackles and four interceptions this year.

St. Martin junior punter Sean Gomez also made the first team after averaging 42.3 yards a punt this year.

Gulfport junior linebacker Karlos Dillard and D’Iberville senior safety Tyler Barnes were named second-team All-State.

George County senior receiver D’wan Williams made the second team as a kick return specialist.
