Long Beach, Biloxi come out on top at cross-country meet

The Long Beach High School Lady Bearcats and Biloxi Indians cross-country teams captured the team championships in Saturday’s Pascagoula/Gautier Cross-Country Meet, which was held at I.G. Levy Park in Pascagoula.

Long Beach freshman Ash Osness led the Lady Bearcats to the win with a runner-up individual finish in the 5K event. Other top scorers for Long Beach were: Brooklyn Biancamano (third), Alexa Nanatovich (seventh), Kathryn Osness (ninth) and Kyla Cuevas (tenth). Gulfport High, led by seventh-place finisher Mallory Streetman, placed second.

Biloxi captured the boys team championship led by fourth-place finisher Connor O’Keefe. The Long Beach boys cross-country squad finished second. Elijah Paige led LBHS with a third-place finish.

A total of 113 runners competed in the girls varsity 5K race & 143 runners competed in the boys 5K event. Nineteen high schools competed in the meet.
