Caden Perez drilled a 26-yard field goal as time expired, lifting Resurrection Catholic to a 24-21 win over Perry Central on Saturday.
Perez’s game-winning kick came after the Bulldogs (2-2) tied the game at 21-21 on a 59 yard TD pass from Tijuane Bolton to George Bolton with 3:20 left in regulation
The Eagles (3-1) took over at their own 29-yard-line. With the help of a roughing the passer call, they quickly reached Perry Central’s 12.
After Cearly Parker ran for two yards to position the ball for Perez, Resurrection coach Scott Sisson called a timeout with two seconds left for the final kick. Bulldogs coach Chip Bilderbackused his final timeout trying to ice Perez.

“I came over the sidelines and coach (Sisson) told me a funny joke and said icing the kicker never worked,” Perez said.
The Eagles spent 15 minutes in practice Wednesday practicing a simulated late-game kick.
“It was at that same spot on the field,” Sisson said.
Perez said Bilderback’s timeout “didn’t do anything actually. It was just a normal kick. I had already made it in my mind. I was going to make the kick.”
After a scoreless first quarter, the Eagles grabbed a 6-0 lead on Patrick Watts’ 1-yard run, the first of three touchdown runs by him.
A bad snap saw Blake Porter pick up the PAT attempt and rush around right end for the two-point conversion, giving Resurrection the 8-0 lead. It was 8-0 at halftime.
In the third quarter, Perry Central found its offense. They scored 14 points to lead 14-8. George Bolton’s 38-yard slotback pass to Derrick Hartfield and McKail Sumrall’s 9 yard TD run were the scoring plays.
In the fourth quarter, Watts scored on runs of 10 and 1 yards to give the Eagles a 21-14 lead with 3:59 left in the game. Watts’ 1-yard run was set up when Wesley McClain forced a fumble inside the Bulldogs 10. Titus Bond recovered at the 1.
