Ole Miss

Ole Miss has fired football coach Matt Luke after three seasons, reports say

Ole Miss has fired football coach Matt Luke after three years on the job, according to multiple reports.

Luke became the head coach on an interim basis after Hugh Freeze was fired prior to the 2017 campaign.

The Gulfport native was given the job on a full-time basis after a 6-6 campaign that year, but he had back-to-back losing seasons over the last two seasons — 5-7 and 4-8.

The Rebels finished the 2019 season on a bad note, losing 21-20 to Mississippi State. The Rebels’ Luke Logan missed a late 35-yard extra point attempt following a 15-yard penalty for unsporstmanlike conduct on receiver Elijah Moore.

Luke and his brother, Tom, were both stars during their playing days at Gulfport High School and Ole Miss.

Luke has also worked as an assistant at Murray State, Duke and Tennessee, working as co-offensive coordinator for both Ole Miss and Duke.
