Gulfport High School linebacker Derick Hall, Class of 2019, has received a football scholarship offer from Ole Miss.
The 6-foot-4, 215-pound Hall announced the offer on his twitter account Thursday.
“This is my first big-time offer,” Hall said Thursday night. “It is very much a blessing and honor.”
Hall said Ole Miss projected him as an outside linebacker.
“They have a junior day on Jan. 13 so I’ll be going up there,” said Hall who is in his junior year at GHS. “I’m looking for a school that has advantages for me and my family; a school that is welcoming and that has great people.”
Hall currently plays center for the Admirals’ boys basketball team.
Gulfport will enter the 2018 football season off an 8-4 season and a Region 4-6A championship.
Hall will also be playing football for a new head coach — John Archie — who replaced Eddie Pierce, who retired at the end of the 2017 season.
“He’s a good guy, he’s been here before,” Hall said of the new head football coach. “He knows the roots of Gulfport. We should be solid defensively. We have guys who will step up to plate and help us to perform.”
