Ole Miss

Prepare to see plenty of Gulfport’s Matt Luke smooching the Golden Egg. Here’s why.

Ole Miss just unveiled a new advertising campaign with the tagline “Mississippi Made.” A billboard on U.S. 49 in downtown Gulfport features Coast native Matt Luke, the former Admiral who was recently given the head coaching job at Ole Miss.

Ole Miss is looking to capitalize on its recent Egg Bowl upset by scattering 10 new billboards throughout Mississippi.

Commuters in downtown Gulfport will see a familiar face if they’re heading south on U.S. 49: Matt Luke.

The Gulfport native appears on two separate slides on the electric billboard with the tagline, “Mississippi Made.” One features Luke kissing the golden egg trophy, while the other image is of the former Admiral cheering.

Luke’s rise through the ranks has been well-documented in recent months as he was made the interim coach at Ole Miss just before the season when Hugh Freeze abruptly resigned.

Luke took over and despite looming NCAA sanctions and the quick transition to what he called his “dream job,” the Coast native led the Rebels to a six-win season that was punctuated on Thanksgiving with a 31-28 win over archrival Mississippi State.

Even with the successful campaign there were plenty of local and national media predicting the full-time job would go to someone else. In the end, the Rebels believed Luke had earned the job.

And now you’ll be seeing plenty of Luke and other Rebels who were “Mississippi Made.”
