The new season is here. Yes, college football gets underway for most colleges and universities on Saturday. But for the Ole Miss football, the new “season” is one of change.

“The Season” is an online docu-series that follows the Ole Miss football program through the 2017 season. The series is also shown on several Mississippi TV stations. It dropped online Aug. 30.

Episode one of “The Season” opens with the Rebels in a team meeting on July 20, the day former coach Hugh Freeze resigned from the university after it was discovered that some calls had been placed to an escort service from his cell phone. It shows Gulfport native and former Gulfport High standout Matt Luke holding his first meeting with the players after it was announced that he would be the school’s new head coach.

“I promise that I will give you my heart and soul to lead you out of this,” Luke said in “The Season.” “It’s been a dream all of my life to be a head coach, but this is not how I wanted on it.”

On Saturday, Luke will lead the Rebels onto Vaught-Hemmingway Field in Oxford on Saturday for the first time as a head coach as Ole Miss faces University of South Alabama. Game time is 6:30 p.m. and it can be viewed on ESPU.

Luke received an outpouring of support on social media Saturday.
