The SEC announced Monday morning that Mississippi State guard Quinndary Weatherspoon was named the league's Freshman of the Week. The 6-foot-4, 202-pound Jackson native scored a career-high 16 points against UT-Martin on 6 of 6 shooting, including a 2 of 2 mark beyond the arc. He also collected a career-high two steals to go along with his three rebounds in the Bulldogs' 76-51 victory.

South Carolina's Mindaugas Kacinas was named the SEC Player of the Week. The 6-foot-7, 229-pound senior forward from Klaipeda, Lithuania, averaged 13 points and seven rebounds per game last week in helping to lead the Gamecocks to two victories, extending their win streak to six games to start the season. The start is the best for Carolina since the 2003-04 campaign, and the best of Frank Martin's coaching career. Kacinas scored 11 points and pulled down eight rebounds en route to Paradise Jam All-Tournament Team honors when the Gamecocks defeated a previously unbeaten Tulsa team to claim the tournament crown last Monday. Kacinas earned all-tournament accolades after averaging 17.3 points per game and six rebounds per game during the event, which included posting a career high 23 points vs. DePaul. The Gamecocks returned home to host Lipscomb, a sharp-shooting 3-point team last Friday, and Kacinas provided 15 points, hitting 7 of 10 attempts from the floor, while also pulling down six rebounds in the win.
