Fallen Oak will host Jill Thompson Golf Classic August 19

The Jill Thompson Golf Classic will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the Fallen Oak Golf Course.

The tournament is named after Thompson, mother of former Biloxi High, Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College and LSU baseball standout Doug Thompson.

Thompson helped LSU win the College World Series in 1997 and spent several years playing minor league baseball.

Doug Thompson, a color analyst for LSU baseball games in Baton Rouge, helps run the Jill Thompson Foundation, which raises money to fight Parkinson’s disease.

The disease afflicted Jill Thompson in the latter part of her life. Jill Thompson, a 1970 Biloxi High graduate and former Camellia Queen, died on Dec. 15, 2011.

Fees for the four-ball tournament varies. A price for the basic foursome is $675. A foursome with LSU help is $775. A full sponsor foursome is $900.

The LSU Mississippi Gulf Coast Alumni Chapter with the Jill Thompson Foundation are hosting the tournament.

Chris Blair, new voice of the Tigers, is also scheduled to attend.
