Report: Steve Spurrier to retire from South Carolina immediately
South Carolina football coach Steve Spurrier is retiring immediately from coaching, Sports Illustrated and ESPN reported Monday night.
South Carolina is off to a 2-4 start, including an 0-4 mark in SEC competition.
The 70-year-old Spurrier is in his 11th season at South Carolina. His most successful years at South Carolina came from 2011-13 with three straight 11-win seasons.
Spurrier built Florida into an SEC power in his 12 years there, winning the 1996 national title and six SEC championshps.
He left Florida to coach in the NFL with the Washington Redskins and went 12-20.
