Former MGCCC baseball coach Cooper Farris will speak at Ohr-O’Keefe Museum
Former Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College baseball coach Cooper Farris will be the main speaker Friday at the Ohr-O’Keefe Museum.
Farris will discuss his coaching career at Gulf Coast and playing days at Delta State at the the latest “Our Love Affair with Baseball” series luncheon. The $10 luncheon includes free admission to the multimedia exhibit.
Farris, 62, coached the Bulldogs from 1990 to 2009. During those 20 years, Farris compiled an impressive 698-376-1 record.
The Bulldogs won 15 MACJC South Division titles, two state championships and two Region 23 championships. In 1991, Farris guided the Bulldogs to the NJCAA World Series. The heralded Bulldogs team was led by future major league All-Star outfielder Matt Lawton.
Gulf Coast’s baseball field is named after Farris’ father, Curly Farris. The elder Farris was the Bulldogs’ baseball coach from 1963 until 1989, winning 13 state titles. The Bulldogs never had a losing season in his 27 years. Farris succeeded his father in 1990 after coaching in Victoria, Texas.
