Pearl River Community College has named Jeff Long as its new athletic director.
Long, 34, was approved by the PRCC Board of Trustees at its monthly meeting Thursday at Poplarville.
Long has been at Pearl River for seven years, the past three years as Director of Student Life. Prior to moving into administration, he served as an assistant baseball coach.
"The biggest thing for me is to focus on the success of our student-athletes," Long said. "And we're going to define success as more than just wins and losses. We're going to demand a lot out of our student-athletes. I believe if we do things the right way, wins will come."

Long is a native of Hurley and graduated in 2000 from East Central High School. He played baseball for his uncle, Gary Long. His father, Kenneth, is the longtime softball coach at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College.
After graduating from East Central, Long played four seasons for Bobby Halford at William Carey, then served another three years as an assistant at Carey, a year as a graduate assistant and two years as a full-time assistant.
Long spent one season as an assistant baseball coach at Pascagoula High, then came to PRCC in 2008. After one season with the Wildcats, he went to Gulf Coast for a year as a baseball assistant, but returned to PRCC in 2010.
Long replaces Jason Francis, who has accepted another position at the college.
"I believe, across the board, the group of head coaches we have now are as good as we've ever had here," Long said. "I think we have people in place who share our values and can communicate those values to our student-athletes."
