Gulf Coast names St. Patrick's Robin Jeffries as AD

PERKINSTON - Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College has hired Robin Jeffries to be the school's athletic director.

Jeffries is the athletic director and girls basketball coach at St. Patrick Catholic High School.

"I feel very blessed," she said. "I'm excited and I look forward to the opportunity. I think it's a great campus and a great college, and I'm really happy to be part of it."

Jeffries, whose first day will be Jan. 15, has been at St. Patrick since 2012. She has had a variety of positions in coaching and administration during her professional career, including time as head women's basketball coach at Millsaps College and Spring Hill College. She was also senior women's administrator during her time at Millsaps.

She has also been the owner of a small business, a high school coach in Texas and Mississippi, and a college professor.

"We're excited to bring in somebody with more than 20 years of experience in education and athletics," said Dr. Ladd Taylor, vice president of MGCCC's Perkinston Campus. "Robin will help us carry on the great tradition of Gulf Coast athletics."

Jeffries, who graduated from Brookhaven Academy, played basketball at Mississippi State from 1985-1988. She completed her bachelor's degree in exercise science at The University of Southern Mississippi. Jeffries also has a master's in education, completed at the University of Houston in 1995.

She started her teaching career at St. Pius X High School in Houston in 1991, moving to Klein (Texas) High School in 1997. Jeffries took her first college coaching job at Millsaps in 1999 and moved to Spring Hill in 2006.

Jeffries was a professor in the sports medicine department at Belhaven College from 2001-6 and 2008-11, and she owned a personal training studio from 2007-10.
