Bulldog golfers lead field at MGCCC Invitational

Mississippi Gulf Coast sits atop the team and individual leaderboards after the first round of the MGCCC Fall Invitational, completed Monday morning.

The Bulldogs, who finished play Sunday, shot an 8-over 296 to lead Spring Hill by one stroke at Grand Bear Golf Course in Saucier. Andrew College is in third at 20-over.

The invitational includes community colleges and four-year schools. There is also an MACJC event being held simultaneously, with East Central the nearest in-state competitor at 26-over.

Two Gulf Coast golfers are leading the individual standings. Colin Troxler fired a 4-under 68 to lead by three shots over Grant Motter.

Spring Hill's Wesley Hunter and Andrew College's Markus Svahn are tied for third after shooting 72.

Gulf Coast's Phillip Hickam is tied for seventh at 2-over 74.

The golfers will return to the course Tuesday for the final round.
