Mississippi Gulf Coast players swept the MACJC Goalkeeper of the Week Awards announced Tuesday, with Kristin Hicks winning the women's award and Bryce Yelverton claiming the men's honor.
Hicks, a sophomore from Poplarville, backstopped a 1-0 upset of No. 18 Jones County on Tuesday. She stopped an eye-popping 21 shots on goal, including a point-blank chance in the final five minutes.
She went on to stop another 18 shots in a 1-1 tie at Meridian on Friday, allowing one goal on 40 shots in 195 minutes over the week.
Gulfport's Yelverton stopped all five shots he faced in a pair of victories last week, helping the Bulldogs clinch the No. 2 seed in the South. He played 113 minutes in a 3-1 victory over Jones and 5-0 blanking of Meridian.
