Pearl River Community College did something Thursday it hadn’t done in three years, win a game at home.
Freshman Ron Thompson ran 18 yards for his third score of the night, putting PRCC ahead 27-21 with 33 seconds to play, and the Wildcat defense stopped ninth-ranked Northeast’s final desperation Hail Mary to preserve the season-opening victory at Dobie Holden Stadium.
Thompson, a freshman from Bassfield, ran 20 times for 124 yards, 102 in the second half, to lead the Wildcats. He also caught 2 passes, both for touchdown.s of 22 and 6 yards
Sophomore quarterback Justin Agner completed 19 of 32 passes for 157 yards and three TDs, as PRCC totaled 404 yards of offense. Redshirt freshman Malcom Staten caught eight passes for 65 yards and the Wildcats first score of the night.
The Wildcats will be back in action again at 6 p.m. next Thursday, when they host sixth-ranked Northwest Mississippi.
