East Central snapped its 13-game losing streak to Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College on Thursday, knocking off the Bulldogs 42-28.
“We didn’t do enough to get it done,” Gulf Coast coach Chad Huff said in a release. “We didn’t play well enough. We didn’t execute well enough.”
Quarterback Kalen Whitlow had his best effort in a MGCCC (1-3) uniform, throwing two touchdowns.
His first touchdown strike was a 63-yarder to Lester Wells. He later threw a 36-yard touchdown to Brandon Martin.

Former Harrison Central standout Dwayne Barnett, however, helped lead ECCC (2-2) with 96 yards and two touchdowns. The former Red Rebel’s two scores were both from 3 yards out.
Southern Miss commit T’Rod Daniels scored for MGCCC on a 13-yard run early in the contest and finished with 54 yards on nine rushes. Ge’Vonte Jones also scored on a 75-yard run and finished with 93 yards on 10 carries.
MGCCC will look to get back on track next Thursday with Hinds coming to Perkinston.
“We’ve got to, as a football team, decide how important it is to us,” Huff said. “We matched them early, played well. We gave up some long drives. The defense has to get off the field. The offense has got to convert some third downs and be more consistent.”
