The Southern Miss baseball team will head to Tallahassee, Fla., in the first round of the postseason while Ole Miss and Mississippi State prepare to host challenging fields in NCAA regionals this week.

After USM was snubbed Sunday as a regional host, it was announced Monday that the Golden Eagles will travel to Florida State as a No. 2 seed. FSU, the host team, is the No 1 seed in the regional while South Alabama is a No. 3 and Alabama State is the four-seed.

USM and South Alabama play in the regional opener at 11 a.m. on Friday. South Alabama won both games the two teams played earlier this season.

Southern Miss (40-18) beat Rice 3-2 on Sunday to win the Conference USA Tournament, but that wasn't quite enough to convince the NCAA committee to give the Golden Eagles a chance to host their first NCAA regional since 2003.

Ole Miss (43-17) and Mississippi State (41-16-1) both face tough opponents in their two regionals. MSU landed a coveted national seed at No. 6 overall.

The Bulldogs will host No. 2 seed Cal State Fullerton (41-16-1), No. 3 Louisiana Tech (40-18) and No. 4 Southeastern Missouri State (39-19).

MSU will play its regional opener against Southeastern Missouri State at 6:30 p.m. on Friday.

Ole Miss will host No. 2 seed Tulane (39-19), No. 3 Boston College (31-20) and No. 4 Utah (25-27). Ole Miss will play Utah at 7 p.m. on Friday in the Rebels' regional opener.

The Oxford regional is paired with the Miami regional while Starkville is paired with the Lafayette, La., regional.
