Report: West Georgia's Lindsey hired to Southern Miss staff

West Georgia assistant head coach/receivers coach Desmond Lindsey has been hired to Jay Hopson's staff at Southern Miss, according to FootballScoop.com.

The Laurel native also served in the role of recruiting coordinator at the Div. II school in Carrollton, Ga.

It's unclear what position Lindsey will hold at USM.

Lindsey served as assistant head coach for five years both at West Alabama and West Georgia under head coach Will Hall, who is the son of Biloxi High School coach Bobby Hall.

Lindsey, a former Delta State player, worked as a receivers coach at Arkansas-Monticello and Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College prior to joining Hall's staff at West Alabama in late 2007.

Lindsey attended high school at Taylorsville, where he was teammates with former NFL quarterback Jason Campbell.

Lindsey's hiring likely completes Hopson's staff with eight others already announced: Offensive coordinator Shannon Dawson, secondary coach Dan Disch, defensive coordinator/linebackers coach Tony Pecoraro, defensive line coach Derek Nicholson, receivers/special teams coordinator John Wozniak, offensive line coach Jack Wright, assistant coach Tim Billings and assistant coach Lytrel Pollard.

Alcorn State outside linebackers coach/director of operations Wes Turner has been hired as director of recruiting, according to FootballScoop.com.
