HATTIESBURG-- Southern Miss scored 18 runs on 13 hits and benefited from 14 walks as the Golden Eagles defeated Eastern Illinois 18-1 on Saturday at Pete Taylor Park. The Golden Eagles used a 5-run third inning and a 6-run fifth inning to break the game open.

Offensively, eight of the nine Golden Eagle starters recorded hits in the game. Dylan Burdeaux, Pascagoula's Tracy Hadley, Tim Lynch, and Gulfport's Daniel Keating each had two hits apiece. Burdeaux, Lynch, Taylor Braley, and Claudio Rubiera each belted home runs in the contest. Braley finished the game 1-for-1 with a home run, two runs scored, four RBI, and four walks.

On the mound, five pitchers combined for the complete game. Jake Winston earned the start, working 4.1 innings. He allowed one run on five hits and a walk with five strikeouts. Luke Lowery picked up the win, tossing 0.2 perfect innings in relief.

Southern Miss added six runs in the bottom of the fifth inning on two hits, five walks, a hit by pitch, a sacrifice fly, and a three-RBI home run to right center field by Lynch.

Ole Miss 7, FIA 4: Ole Miss baseball team used two clutch bases-loaded hits to beat Florida International at Swayze Field. The win clinched the 12th time the Rebels (2-0) have won the season-opening weekend series under head coach Mike Bianco.

Two big hits with the bases loaded in two separate innings propelled Ole Miss to victory. The Rebels struck early with three runs in the first before adding four more in the sixth. All seven runs were off FIU starter Christopher Mourelle (0-1), who lasted 5.1 innings.

Freshman right-hander Andy Pagnozzi (1-0) relieved Rebel starter Chad Smith and tossed 2.1 scoreless frames in his Ole Miss debut to earn the win. The freshman allowed just one hit, retiring seven of the eight batters he faced.

Junior left-handed pitcher Wyatt Short (1) stepped onto the mound in the eighth inning for the Rebels, earning his first save of the season in his 2016 debut. Short increased his career saves to a staggering total of 14, putting him in sole possession of the sixth most in Ole Miss Baseball history.

Mississippi State 17 South Dakota State 4: Jack Kruger had three hits, four RBI and scored four times as the Bulldogs (1-1) won a doubleheader. Brent Rooker had two hits and three RBI. Keegan James (1-0) earned the victory, going 4.2 innings. MSU scored the game's first five runs through two innings. The Bulldogs put the game away with a seven-run fourth inning.

LSU 4, Cincinnati 0: Sophomore right-hander Alex Lange (1-0) fired 6.2 innings, recording nine strikeouts and allowing only one hit to help lift the Tigers to a shutout victory over the Cincinnati Bearcats (0-2) in Game 2 of the series at Alex Box Stadium. Lange and relievers Caleb Gilbert and Jesse Stallings combined to allow only four base hits while registering 13 strikeouts against the Cincinnati batters.
