Former Southern Miss quarterback Austin Davis appears likely to get his second start of the season for the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland.com reports.

Starting quarterback Johnny Manziel was placed under the NFL's concussion protocol and Wednesday will probably have to sit out Sunday's finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The report said that Manziel is "highly unlikely" to be cleared to play in the game.

Davis has played in two games this season, starting one for the Browns.

He has completed 66.7 percent of his passes for 307 yards, one touchdown and one interception.

Davis was picked up by the Browns prior to the season after he was cut by the St. Louis Rams.

He played in 10 games, including eight starts for the Rams a year ago. He completed 63.4 percent of his passes for 2,001 yards, 12 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Davis was the starting quarterback at USM from 2008-11. He led the Golden Eagles to a Conference USA championship and a 12-2 mark in his senior campaign in 2011.
