Guy named finalist for Hall of Fame

Former Southern Miss punter Ray Guy has been named a finalist for election into the Pro Hall of Fame's class of 2014, the Hall announced Wednesday.

Guy is joined by former Atlanta Falcons defensive end Claude Humphrey as the two finalists selected by the Pro Football Hall of Fame's Seniors committee.

The two will be joined by 15 yet-to-be-named modern era candidates on the list of finalists from which the class of 2014 will be picked.

The Hall of Fame selection meeting will take place Feb. 1, 2014.

Guy was a first round pick by the Oakland Raiders in 1973 and was All-Pro six straight years from 1973 to 1978. He also made seven Pro Bowls.

He averaged 40 yards per punt in all but one of his 14 seasons. He made the All-Decade team for the 1970s.
