USM player unable to speak after shooting

Southern Miss football coach Larry Fedora met with the media this morning to discuss the circumstances of his three players injured in a shooting early Sunday morning outside a Hattiesburg nightclub.

Fedora said all three players remain in "fair condition" and that they would be have a chance to meet with their teammates today.

Fedora declined to be specific about the nature of the three players' injuries, but said Tim Green is currently unable to speak.

"He writes (notes) because he can't speak right now," Fedora said. "They felt like they let the team down."

When asked if Martez Smith was paralyzed, Fedora would not address the comment.

Fedora said there are nightclubs that players are instructed not to frequent, but the Remington's Hunt Club was not on that list. However, for the time being, that has changed.

"Actually, everywhere is off limits right now," Fedora said. "Until we get this under control. The important thing now is laying low, getting healthy and getting ready to play."

The Golden Eagles play host to Houston on Saturday at M.M. Roberts Stadium. will provide details as they become available.
