Southern Miss will face College World Series champion in 2027 Texas tournament
The Golden Eagles will be heading back to Texas in 2027.
Southern Miss is one of four teams selected to play in the 11th annual Frisco College Baseball Classic, joining a field that includes the reigning national champion.
The school announced Tuesday it would take part in the in-season tournament held at Riders Field in Frisco next March. Southern Miss will be joining Oklahoma, Kansas and UC Irvine in the event.
It’s the second straight year the Eagles have been invited to a popular multi-team Texas event. Southern Miss swept the field at the 2026 Round Rock Classic in February and used the wins over Oregon State, Baylor and Purdue as a launching pad for one of the most successful regular seasons in school history.
Next season’s Frisco College Baseball Classic will feature four teams that combined to win 157 games in 2026. Southern Miss, Oklahoma and Kansas all won at least 43 games.
The Jayhawks hosted both a Regional and Super Regional while the Sooners won the College World Series in three games over North Carolina.
Southern Miss is reloading after a disappointing exit from Regionals as the Hattiesburg host. While many of the arms that made up one of the top staffs in the country are set to return, the Golden Eagles are piecing together a new-look lineup with transfers Cannon Peery from Grand Canyon, Cade Baker from Toledo and Brady Waugh from UAB.
The Frisco Classic will be played at the home of the Texas Rangers’ Double-A affiliate Frisco Roughriders on March 5-7.
