Get ready, Baseburg. Southern Miss will host regional, awaits official seeding
Southern Miss will host a regional for the fifth time.
The NCAA’s announcement Sunday is a mere formality for the top-15 ranked RPI Sun Belt regular season and tournament champions.
The 16 hosts were announced unseeded, with the full field revealed set for Monday at 11 a.m. during the selection show broadcast on ESPN2.
“Hattiesburg is going to be crazy,” coach Christian Ostrander said Sunday after winning the league final. “They call it Baseburg for a reason. I’m proud for the players and proud for the program. It’s going to be a party.”
Southern Miss will be the lone SBC team hosting a regional, but the league is expected to again receive multiple bids.
Coastal Carolina was nationally ranked inside the top 20 for much of the season before faltering down the stretch and winning just four of its last 12 games.
Louisiana, Troy and Texas State are all considered on the bubble.
“(Louisiana), what they did the last few weeks and here in the tournament was pretty impressive,” Ostrander said. “There’s no doubt they’re deserving.”
Southern Miss is hosting a regional for the third time since 2022 and is on the bubble to receive the program’s first top-eight seed.
