Southern Miss gets reshaped football schedule featuring old rival, playoff team
The Sun Belt released its conference football schedule Friday, and it features a new-look slate for Southern Miss.
The SBC’s announcement arrived two weeks later than typical, as it awaited resolution in Louisiana Tech’s legal battle with Conference USA around the school’s attempt to expedite its move into the SBC to July of this year.
Conference USA released its football schedule Thursday and included LTU in the fixture. The league did the same thing when USM joined the SBC in 2022 by releasing a USM-included schedule hours before the SBC release, only to update it once the SBC revealed its schedule featuring the Golden Eagles, Marshall and Old Dominion.
Louisiana Tech will be replacing outgoing member Texas State, which is joining the rebuilt Pac-12.
The SBC has rearranged its traditional format, notably moving the season finale between USM and Troy to Tuesday, Oct. 6, which will serve as the conference opener for new Golden Eagles head coach Blake Anderson.
The home conference schedule includes Arkansas State, Louisiana, 2025 College Football Playoff participant James Madison and South Alabama.
Southern Miss will travel to ULM, Louisiana Tech and the season-concluding contest against Old Dominion.
The Golden Eagles begin spring practice on March 24.
