Southern Miss two wins from March Madness. How to watch Sun Belt semifinal

Behind the brilliance of Tylik Weeks, suddenly streaking Southern Miss has roared into the Sun Belt Conference men’s basketball tournament semifinals.

Weeks is averaging 30.3 points per game and has carried the Golden Eagles to three victories in three days of the Sun Belt’s step-ladder tournament.

Southern Miss entered the tournament seeded eighth and today will face the tournament’s top seed, Troy. The Trojans finished the regular season 12-6 in conference play, while the Golden Eagles were 9-9.

The season series

Southern Miss and Troy played twice this season, with each team winning on its home floor.

Troy drew first blood, blowing out the Golden Eagles, 91-65, on Jan. 14 behind 30 points from a red-hot Cobi Campbell (11-of-16 from the floor, 6-of-9 from 3-point range).

Southern MIss, though, evened the score with a 69-65 win in Hattiesburg on Feb. 14. Tylik Weeks exploded for 32 points, while the Golden Eagles held Campbell to just five in a game that was close throughout.

How they got here

Southern Miss: The Golden Eagles defeated 9th-seeded James Madison on Thursday, 5th-seeded Texas State on Friday and 4th-seeded Appalachian State on Saturday.

Troy: This will be Troy’s first game of the Sun Belt tournament. By virtue of their regular-season championship, the Trojans received a bye directly into the semifinals of the tournament.
