Southern Miss QB Ty Keyes enters transfer portal with 3 years of eligibility remaining
Southern Miss quarterback Ty Keyes has entered the transfer portal, according to 247sports.
Keyes played in seven games over two seasons, completing 43 passes for 636 yards and six touchdowns against six interceptions.
Once seen as the face of the future under head coach Will Hall, Keyes’ promising career was quickly derailed by injuries. After four games in 2021 and being thrust into an early starting role, Keyes suffered a season-ending injury against Rice.
Keyes made the 2022 season-opening start against Liberty, but went down with an injury in the first half. Keyes then appeared against Northwestern State, completing six of nine passes for 192 yards and three scores.
He played in one snap the following week, a four-yard run against Tulane, and suffered another season-ending injury.
Originally a Tulane commit, the Taylorsville, Miss. native followed Hall, who had just been hired at USM, to Hattiesburg and became the Golden Eagles’ highest-rated quarterback recruit on 247sports.com since Anthony Alfred in 2012.
Keyes enters the portal with three years of eligibility remaining. He’s the second USM quarterback to enter the portal this offseason, joining Trey Lowe.
Southern Miss is still expected to have its deepest quarterback room in the Hall era at six scholarship players, including transfers Holman Edwards and Billy Wiles.
