Legendary Southern Miss baseball coach Corky Palmer passes away at 68
Legendary Southern Miss baseball coach Carlton Devan “Corky” Palmer has passed away, according to the university.
Palmer led the Golden Eagles to 458 wins on the diamond, as well as the school’s first and only trip to the College World Series in 2009.
He coached at Southern Miss for 12 seasons and is third all-time in wins. Before his coaching career at USM began as an assistant in 1985, Palmer played for the school from 1974 to 1977 as a Hattiesburg native.
Palmer was 68 years old.
