Southern Miss will make millions in payouts for future football games. Here’s the list.
Southern Miss football is set to travel to three different Power Five venues in each of the next three years and will be paid handsomely for the trips.
According to documents obtained by the Sun Herald via Freedom of Information Act request, USM will receive about $5 million from the schools they will visit for matchups.
The Golden Eagles will travel to Miami to face the Hurricanes on Sept. 10. According to the contract signed by both schools, Miami will be handing over $1.5 million.
A trip to Florida State in 2023 will earn USM another $1.5 million.
In 2024, USM will receive one of the highest buy game payouts in college football history. Ohio State will be paying the school $1.9 million for an Aug. 31 game.
The highest payout ever received in the sport was $2.125 million to the hands of none other than the Golden Eagles from Nebraska in 2013.
Southern Miss will be a full member of the Sun Belt by 2024, making the $1.9 million transaction among the highest in Sun Belt history. The Golden Eagles also received $1.9 million from Alabama for its trip to Tuscaloosa in 2021.
