This marks the first time that the Golden Eagles and Jaguars have met in football since USA established its program in 2009. USM and USA have a long history of doing battle in basketball and baseball.
Jay Hopson is in his fifth year as the head coach at Southern Miss and former Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College coach Steve Campbell is entering his fifth season as the Jaguars’ coach.
Southern Miss is expected to have the edge on offense with redshirt senior quarterback Jack Abraham and senior receiver Tim Jones both expected to be among the best players in Conference USA.
Desmond Trotter, a redshirt sophomore, is the Jaguars’ starting quarterback. Campbell hopes he can get the offense off to a better start than it had a year ago.
