Southern Miss football adds SEC transfer from Mississippi
The Southern Miss football team has landed a graduate transfer to help bolster its offense for the 2020 campaign.
Arkansas tight end Grayson Gunter announced on Twitter Friday that he plans to play his final season of college football with the Golden Eagles.
Out of Madison Central High School in Madison, Mississippi, Gunter was rated a three-star prospect by 247sports.com. He received offers from Arkansas, Appalachian State, Arkansas State, Florida Atlantic and FAU.
Gunter entered the transfer portal in December and will be immediately eligible to play at USM.
The tight end position hasn’t played much of a role in the Southern Miss passing attack in recent seasons, but the 6-foot-6, 243-pound Gunter could prove to be a big target for the Golden Eagles.
Gunter started eight games in three seasons with the Razorbacks, including six during the 2019 season. He played in all 12 games for the Razorbacks in 2019, making six catches for 55 yards and one touchdown.
Gunter had 11 receptions for 135 yards and two touchdowns over three seasons.
Southern Miss redshirt junior receiver Quez Watkins recently announced plans to enter the NFL Draft, leaving USM in a position to seek more receiving options for the 2020 campaign.
