The Southern Miss baseball team received strong recognition Monday for their the team’s three-game sweep of Mississippi State.
The Golden Eagles made big leaps in three major polls and swept Conference USA’s weekly honors on Monday.
▪ The biggest jump for the Golden Eagles came in the Collegiate Baseball poll, moving up 12 spots to No. 13.
▪ The D1Baseball.com poll didn't even have USM ranked a week ago. Now, the Golden Eagles stand at No. 15.

▪ In the Baseball America poll, Southern Miss improved four spots to No. 17.
Reynolds, a transfer from Mississippi State, was 6-of-10 at the plate with six runs scored, a home run and five RBIs.
Sandlin was the winning pitcher in Friday's game, throwing seven scoreless innings. He set career highs for his longest outing and strikeouts (9). He gave up four hits on 93 pitches.
Southern Miss is 3-0 headed into an important non-conference road game at South Alabama (3-1) at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The Jaguars are also coming off a nice weekend after playing four games in a South Carolina tournament. They beat Kansas State, Oklahoma and Virginia Tech before losing 8-4 to Indiana on Sunday.
South Alabama is ranked No. 17 by Collegiate Baseball.
USM will go with redshirt sophomore Walker Powell as the starting pitcher against South Alabama on Tuesday. Powell sat out last season after undergoing Tommy John Surgery for an injury he suffered late during his freshman campaign. He finished 4-3 with a 3.46 ERA as a freshman.
Following its three-game sweep of Winthrop, Ole Miss (3-0) mostly stood still in the rankings and sits at No. 9 in the D1baseball.com poll.
Mississippi State dropped out of most of the rankings, but D1Baseball.com has them ranked No. 21.
