D'Angelo Richards hit a fade away 3-pointer at the buzzer in overtime, and Southern Mississippi overcame a 14-point, second-half deficit to beat Florida International 69-66 on Thursday night.

FIU jumped out on a 6-0 spurt in the extra period before Quinton Campbell made back-to-back 3s to tie it at 66 with 51 seconds left. FIU committed a turnover on its next possession, and after a Southern Miss timeout, Richardson missed a 3 and Cortez Edwards couldn’t connect on a putback. Richardson grabbed Edwards’ rebound and made the game-winner.

FIU’s Eric Nottage made a 3-pointer with 18 seconds left in regulation, and Campbell missed a 3 to force overtime tied at 60.

Campbell scored 28 points and made five 3-pointers to lead Southern Miss (8-18, 5-9 Conference USA). Edwards added 16 points and Richards finished with seven. Elmo Stephen scored 17 points and Nottage had 15 for the Golden Panthers (6-20, 2-11), who led 38-24 with 12:32 to play.
