QB Tyler Matthews set to transfer from Southern Miss
Southern Miss redshirt junior quarterback Tyler Matthews is set to transfer from the program, he has announced.
Matthews was in competition for the starting job at USM prior to the 2015 season, but was beat out by Nick Mullens.
"Thankful I had the opportunity to come to Southern Miss to receive my degree," Matthews said in a statement. "Upon graduation in May, I will be transferring to pursue a graduate degree and will be looking to go enjoy my final year of college football at another university.
"I'm beyond happy with the memories and lifelong friends that were made during my time at USM. Excited to see where my next chapter will be."
Matthews will be immediately eligible to compete for another school once he enrolls in graduate school.
Matthews transferred to USM from TCU and received a redshirt during the 2014 campaign.
During his limited time on the field in 2015, Matthews completed 5-of-7 passes for 112 yards and one touchdown. He also ran eight times for 76 yards and a score.
Matthews, a Kansas native, was considered one of the nation's top pro-style quarterbacks when he signed with TCU in 2012.
