College hoops roundup: Ole Miss tops SEMO

Senior Stefan Moody scored a game-high 28 points, including 19 in the second half, as Ole Miss knocked off Southeast Missouri 75-64 Saturday.

Ole Miss (7-2) clung to a 3-point lead with 9:22 left, but Moody scored the next 15 points as the Rebels pulled away.

Ole Miss dominated on the boards, outrebounding the Redhawks 53-36. Marcanvis Hymon had a season-high 14 rebounds, while Sebastian Saiz added 11.

MSU men fall at UMKC: Mississippi State (4-4) could not hold a late lead in dropping its first true road contest of the men's basketball season Saturday.

After rallying from down eight points in the first half, the Bulldogs could not protect a late three-point lead, dropping a 72-67 decision to Missouri-Kansas City at Municipal Auditorium.

Malik Newman led the Bulldogs with a career-high 18 points. Craig Sword and Gavin Ware each added 12 points, while I.J. Ready had 11 points. Ware fouled out with slightly better than four minutes left in the contest.

Southern Miss women 57, Ole Miss 38: The Southern Miss Lady Eagle basketball team used a stellar defensive effort, holding Ole Miss to 21.4 percent shooting from the field in defeating the Rebels 57-38 Saturday evening in Reed Green Coliseum.

Southern Miss, winners of its last five, improved to 6-2 while Ole Miss dropped to 5-4. The last time a Southern Miss team defeated Ole Miss in Hattiesburg was Feb.4, 1980.

Jerontay Clemons led the way with a team-best 17 points and six steals, Caitlin Jenkins added a double-double with 10 points and 18 rebounds to go with six blocks and Brittanny Dinkins chipped in 12 points.

Shandricka Sessom led Ole Miss with a game-high 20 points.
