Former Biloxi football standout killed in car accident over the weekend

Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College football player and former Biloxi High standout Marcus Dickey passed away Sunday in a car accident, according to the school.

Dickey, 22, was traveling to Perkinston for practice after attending the Nicholls football game in Thibodaux, La. Saturday.

He was a four-year starter on the defensive line at Biloxi. Dickey was named to the 6A MAC All-State team as a senior.

“Outside of being one of the best football players I have coached in high school, he had a great personality,” Dickey’s former high school coach Katlan French told the Sun Herald. “He was one of the most popular players on the team. He could find joy in just about anything.”

Dickey initially signed with Army but would begin his college career at Nicholls. He made nine appearances across two seasons before transferring to MGCCC.

“He was the kind of kid who was the first one in the meeting, one of the first guys out at practice, one of the hardest workers in the weight room,” MGCCC coach Jack Wright said in the school’s release. “He always had a big ol’ smile on his face. He was everything you would want out of a teammate. Everything.”

No details of the crash have been released. Arrangements are being handled by Dickey Brothers Memorial Funeral Home.

“He was a very positive young man in every regard,” Wright said. “We’re very, very sad as coaches and players. We’re going to play and honor him this week and the rest of the year.”
